Lie group contractions and the separation of variables
Description
The Smorodinsky-Vilenkin method of trees for describing the separation of variables on n-dimensional spheres is used to show how contractions related to the separation of variables on spheres Sn and Euclidean spaces En. The tree diagrams for Sn and cluster diagrams for En are related to subgroup diagrams for O(n + 1) and E(n), respectively
