Observation and analysis of expansion of an explosive bubble in a confined environment: the CARAVELLE 6 experiment

  • 1. Commissariat a l'Energie Atomique, CEN Cadarache, 13 - Saint-Paul-lez-Durance (France)

Description

The CARAVELLE facility permits the observation of expansion of an explosive bubble in a vessel partially filled with water together with the observation of the resulting motion of the fluid free surface. This paper presents a survey of qualitative and quantitative informations issued from the recent CARAVELLE 6 test which was fired with the low density L54-16 explosive. The emphasis is particularly laid on the utility of these results in validation of bubble and fluid behaviour models which are implemented in our containment codes as well as on the application to HCDA studies in reactor scale
