Effect of the cyclic heat treatment on the substructure and grain size of the N17MT2 steel

Description
The industrial cobalt-free maraging steel melt with big austenite initial grain were cyclic heat treated. Microstructure changes were revealed by light and electronic microscopy and X-ray examination. Microhardness was also measured. The increase of grain refinement, beginning from size approx. 0.02 mm, changes the martensite morphology from lath to polyhedral, characteristic for massive martensite. (author)
