Description

Heavy Water Plant, Kota is basically a chemical plant for the production of heavy water having a capacity of 85 Tons per year. HWP(K) utilises dual temperature exchange process of hydrogen sulfide and water for extracting deuterium from water upto 15% and vacuum distillation process for enriching from 15 to 99.84% D2O (reactor grade). Various safety aspects which were considered in site selection, plant layout, design inspection and quality control, and plan t operation are described. Protective measures adopted for the safety of plant personnel, communication system and emergency planning are also described. (auth or)
