A highly diamagnetic, finite length migma equilibrium based on a new adiabatic invariant
Description
An analytic model of a strongly diamagnetic migma plasma with fully three-dimensional confinement has been formulated. This is made possible by the identification of a new adiabatic constant of the motion, allowing mirror confinement of particles with highly noncircular orbits. The adiabatic constant consists of the action around the particle orbit in the transverse direction. A simple equilibrium model is found in the ideal case of infinitely strong end mirrors, which results in an equation for the vector potential with Coulomb wave function radial solutions. (orig.)
