Determination of 90Sr in waters of discharge of nuclear power plants
Description
The determination of 90Sr has some problems because it is a pure beta emitter, and despite the specificity of radiochemical techniques used, their full identification is not always easy, especially when detected low activities. In addition, samples water discharge presents a matrix consisting of a series of fission or activation products, beta / gamma emitters, several of which may interfere with the determination of 90Sr. This paper describes a simple method for the determination of 90Sr in water of discharge of nuclear power plants, which is based on the purification of 90Y, which is used in the ARN since 2009 and has yielded good results to the present, as no interferences were detected in the analysis of the decay of 90Y. Abstract (Spanish)
La determinacion de Sr90 presenta algunos problemas debido a que es un emisor beta puro, y a pesar de la especificidad de las tecnicas radioquimicas utilizadas, su identificacion plena no siempre es sencilla, especialmente cuando se detectan bajas actividades. Ademas, las muestras de aguas de descarga presentan una matriz consistente en una serie de productos de fision o de activacion, emisores beta/gamma, varios de los cuales pueden interferir en la determinacion de Sr90. En este trabajo se describe un metodo simple para la determinacion de Sr90 en aguas de descarga de las centrales nucleares, que esta basado en la purificacion del Sr90, que es utilizado en la ARN desde el ano 2009 y que ha permitido obtener buenos resultados hasta el presente, ya que no se han detectado interferencias en el analisis del decaimiento del Y90.
