Giant quadrupole resonance in 2426Mg
Description
The giant-resonance structure in 24Mg and 26Mg was studied by inelastic scattering of 120-MeV alphas. Typical (α,α') spectra for 24Mg and 26Mg are shown. In the range of excitation energy between 15 and 24 MeV in 24Mg, (60 +- 15)% of the T = O, E2 energy-weighted sum rule (EWSR) is seen. In the range of excitation energy below 15 MeV about 45% of the EWSR is seen. For 26Mg, (50 +- 10)% of the T = 0, E2 EWSR is found in the excitation energy range between 15 and 22 MeV. 2 figures
