The optical light curve of the AM Herculus system 2A 0311-227

Description
Optical V-band light curves of the AM Herculus binary 2A 0311-227 are presented. These show two equal minima and two unequal maxima in each binary cycle as well as strong flickering on a short time-scale. The light curves are interpreted in terms of a model involving a phase-locked white dwarf with two active magnetic poles; unusually, the system appears to undergo star-by-star eclipses. (author)
