Preoperative scintigraphic detection of metastatic cervical nodes of papillary thyroid carcinoma in its follicular variety

Description

Preoperative scintigraphic detection of metastatic cervical nodes of thyroid carcinoma is exceptional. We report herein a case of a 45-year-old man, whose thyroid scintigraphy revealed cervical nodes accumulation of Tc-99m pertechnetate. Histological examination was consistent with lymph nodes metastases of papillary thyroid carcinoma. Postoperatively, the patient received 3,7 GBq of 131 iodine with good control of his disease. Abstract (French)

La detection scintigraphique d'adenopathies cervicales metastatiques de carcinome thyroidien avant la thyroidectomie totale est un evenement exceptionnel. Nous rapportons l'observation d'un patient de 45 ans dont la scintigraphie thyroidienne au pertechnetate a revele des fixations laterocervicales revelatrices de metastases ganglionnaires d'un carcinome papillaire de la thyroide dans sa variante vesiculaire. Apres thyroidectomie totale et iratherapie, a raison de 3,7 GBq d'iode 131, l'evolution a ete tres bonne. (auteurs)
