Does the Σ(D) dependence exist for supernova remnants

  • 1. AN Azerbajdzhanskoj SSR, Baku. Inst. Fiziki

Description

The problem of determination of distances to supernova remnants (SNR) according to the dependence of the surface brightness 9 on the diameter D of SNR is discussed. Various authors have used different SNR with independently established distances (calibrators) to construct a 9(D)-dependence, not only the parameters of dependence but also its shape which was changed as well. Recently Green made an analysis of all existing methods to determine the distances to SNR, plotting hiscalibrators on the 9-D-diagram. The calibrators with the most reliable distances hardly showed the 9(D)-dependence. In this paper it is shown that only shell-type remnants evolved in a comparably dense medium may be the calibrators for the construction of 9(D)-dependence. Using 9(D)-dependence one can estimate distances and see the evolution of the overwhelming majority of the SNR
