The long way to lay the first foundation stone

The decision for the construction of a new reactor is long and the goal of a path made of various milestones. The launching of a public consultation is the first important step. This public consultation is covered by law and led by the CNDP (National commission for public consultation). For instance the CNDP was notified in february 2022 for the construction of a pair of EPR-2 reactors on the Penly site and a public consultation will be launched certainly in autumn 2022. This public consultation will enable French authorities to inform the public. Its purpose is not to question the EPR-2 design but to better take into account environmental and societal impacts and to answer practical questions concerning pollution and disturbances for residents. The public consultation is necessary to build public acceptance for the project. (A.C.)
