Monte Carlo calculation of energy deposition by fast protons in a Rossi counter

Creators

Description

The energy loss Δ of a fast proton traversing a finite, gas filled cavity may differ from the energy deposited, y. The major reason for this difference is given by the finite range of the secondary electrons (delta rays) produced by the protons. Monte Carlo calculations of the difference are presented for a Rossi counter with equivalent diameter of 2 μm of unit density material. Serious problems are anticipated for the microdosimetry of fast neutrons. (author)
