The determination of Eu and Sm by application of x-ray spectrometry to isotope-source activation analysis

Description
Some advantages of isotope source activation over conventional XRF and PIXE are clear: counting is not accompanied by bremsstrahlung and can be undertaken off-line for an extended period. It is shown that the limited neutron flux from a 1 mg 252Cf source is suitable for applications to the determination of minor and trace concentrations of Sm and Eu in geological matrices. It was further shown that a suitable linear relationship existed between measured signal and elemental concentration. This establishes the method as a useful tool which can be applied on a routine basis in a university laboratory. (author) 6 refs.; 3 figs
