Precise determination of αs from τ decays

Description
The hadronic decay rate of the τ lepton provides a low energy determination of the strong coupling constant that is competitive in precision with any other method. Using the electronic branching fraction of the τ as input, we obtain αs(Mτ)=0.33±0.03. Evolving up to the mass of the Z using the renormalization group, we obtain αs(MZ)=0.119±0.004, in agreement with precise determinations from LEP
