Different irradiation effects of polyethylene by various radiation sources
Description
Polyethylene film was irradiated by medium energy electron beam, and change of alkyl radical with time was measured by ESR (electron spin resonance) method. Sample was high density polyethylene with 40 μm thickness and irradiated by 20 or 50 KGy dose. The results showed that the sample irradiated at 50 KGy formed more large relative concentration of radicals and showed less decay time than that at 20 KGy. Then, to compare the radiation effect of polyethylene irradiated by proton beam with that irradiated by other radiation sources, the relation between number of implantation ions and the proton beam exposure was evaluated by RCD dosimeter which was corrected by Fricke dosimeter. 2 MeV proton beam produced more large dose at less number of implantation ions than 3 MeV proton beam. For example, when 1.0 x 1012 ions was implanted, 2 MeV and 3 MeV proton beam generated about 40 KGy and 30 KGy, respectively. (S.Y.)
