Description
Studies included in this document illustrate the importance of designing and calibrating the personnel dosimeter based on field conditions. The current personnel dosimeter and calibration techniques were developed to be especially sensitive to the low energy photon and thermal neutron irradiation received during plutonium separation. Calibration sources used since the inception of the albedo thermoluminescent dosimeter for each radiation type are: Non-penetrating - several aged uranium disk sources are used each equipped with a specially designed exposure jig; Penetrating - for the past few years, a cesium-137 source has usually been used although a cobalt-60 has been used occasionally; Slow Neutron - a graphite moderated sigma pile is used; Fast Neutron - a PuF4 source is used
