The outline of new radwaste system at Hamaoka Nuclear Power Station

  • 1. Chubu Electric Power Co. Inc., Nagoya (Japan)

Description

In Hamaoka Nuclear Power Station, the amounts of miscellaneous inflammable solids and other solid wastes have increased due to the contamination countermeasures in inspection and the replacement of pipes and others in plant improvement. In the meanwhile, the technology of volume reduction and waste treatment produced the results. In view of this situation, a radioactive waste treatment system for volume reduction has been completed in June, 1981. The ideas behind the system are the suppression of occurrence of wastes for higher treatment efficiency, the reduction in the volume of wastes and adequate storage facilities for the future. The following matters are described: policy concerning the construction of the radioactive waste treatment system, overall radioactive treatment system, volume reduction treatment facilities, condensate filtration and desalting equipment, and associated facilities.
