ANTARES: conceptual design of the HTR of Areva NP
Creators
Description
Based on its previous experience in the design of the German module and its participation in the GT-MHR, Areva NP designed and original HTR plant concept based on a combined cycle power conversion system. The key requirements were minimization of technological risks together with high efficiency easy maintenance and embedded flexibility to adapt to cogeneration. The conceptual design is completed and documented. However, both the failure of the hydrogen thermochemical process and the lack of a significant CO2 value do not encourage process heat industry to switch to nuclear heat in the short term so that the development is currently on standby until favorable economic conditions emerge.
