Thermodesorption and IR spectrometry studies of polyamorphous and polyamorphous transformations in cryovacuum condensates of water

Description

Thermodesorption and IR studies of thermally stimulated transitions in thin films of cryovacuum water condensates were conducted simultaneously. It is shown that the temperature interval 12-36 K is the region of existence of a high-density amorphous solid water state. The high density - low density amorphous state transition onsets at T ∼ 39 K and completes in the interval from 60 to 70 K. This process is accompanied by the formation which reaches its maximum intensity at T ∼ 42 K. It is found that the temperature of transition from glassy amorphous ice to super-viscous liquid state is Tg=(137±2) K. Further increase of the temperature leads to step-like transformation in the layer. This may be related to the competing processes of crystallization through the growth of cubic and hexagonal nuclei and direct crystallization of liquid super-viscous water, formed at Tg and co-existing with the crystalline phase up to temperatures of approximately 200 K. The studies revealed an anomalous behavior of the samples at temperatures below sublimation. This confirms the idea that a multicomponent system, which consists of amorphous and crystalline constituents, has various values of the gas phase equilibrium pressure, corresponding to partial activation energies of sublimation. This results in evaporation of amorphous water at an earlier stage and its recondensation on the crystalline components into the corresponding crystalline phase
