Description
A method is suggested to make a thermodynamic estimation of the possibility to obtain strong carbide-metal welded joints. The role of the metal and metalloid diffusion in the process of the full-strength joint formation between the welded materials is considered on welding carbide with metal. It is shown that the third stage (the volumetric interaction) in the diffusion welding of carbides and carbides with metals is limited by self-diffusion of metal atoms in the carbide crystal lattice. Optimal temperatures of metal and carbide welding are established to correlate with the degree of valence electrons localization in the metal latice (metal sublattice in the case of carbides)
