Spectra of fast neutrons inelastically scattered by Al, Fe, Co and Nb nuclei

The study was made to measure spectra of inelastically scattered fast neutrons with high energy resolution and to compare them with statistical model calculations. The differential cross sections on Al, Co, Fe and Nb nuclei were measured using the T(d,n)4He source of 14.6 MeV neutrons and the time-of-flight method. The calculations assumed the compound-nucleus type reactions and took into account the preequilibrium emission of neutrons. The comparison has shown that the theoretical curves, obtained without any fitting parameters, depict well the experimental spectra for energies below 10 MeV, thus proving the validity of the model
