Evolutionary and biochemical aspects of radioresistance of plants

A relationship has been found between radioresistance of plants and Blagoveshchensky's evolutionary biochemical theory which proclaims that evolution of proteins underlies the evolution of higher plants. Biochemical features characteristic of evolutionary advanced taxons are exhibited by radioresistant forms. On the contrary, primitive taxons are radiosensitive. It follows that higher plants owe their radioresistance to evolution of proteins
