Description

The measured spectroscopic factor for proton pick-up on 48Ca has been exploited to estimate the influence of proton correlations on the strength of the magnetic dipole excitation at Esub(x)=10.23 MeV in 48Ca. A calculation within the framework of a two state shell-model for both the O+ ground state and the 1+ excited state indicates that the presence of proton correlations cannot explain the missing M1 strength.
