Measurement of transport properties of mixtures of N2, O2 and air in electric arcs up to 14 000 K

Description

The transport properties of nitrogen, oxygen, air, and mixtures of nitrogen and oxygen under atmospheric pressure are studied at temperatures up to 14 000 K. The different plasmas are produced in a principally flow-free cylindrical cascaded arc of 5 mm diameter. As a particular characteristic of the experimental set-up the hot electrodes are rinsed with a protective gas to avoid chemical erosion by oxygen produced in the test volume of the arc chamber, and the individual cascade plates arc cooled separately for the measurement of the current-field strength-charactteristic. Abstract (German)

Die hier vorgestellten Untersuchungen betreffen die Transporteigenschaften von Stickstoff, Sauerstoff, Luft sowie Gemischen aus Stickstoff und Sauerstoff bei Atmosphaerendruck und Temperaturen bis ca. 14 000 K. Das jeweilige Plasma wird stationaer in einem im Prinzip stroemungsfreien, zylindrischen Kaskadenbogen von 5 m Durchmesser erzeugt. Besondere Merkmale der experimentellen Anordnungen sind die Umspuelung der heissen Elektroden mit Schutzgas, um eine chemische Erosion durch den Sauerstoff aus dem Testgebiet der Bogenkammer zu verhindern, und die getrennte Kuehlung der einzelnen Kaskadenplatten bei der Messung der Strom-Feldstaerke-Charakteristik.
