Kinetic properties of IVa and Va subgroup transition metal monocarbides

  • 1. AN SSSR, Sverdlovsk. Inst. Khimii

Description

Theoretical and experimental information is given on the structure and properties of high-melting compounds, such as TiC, ZrC, HfC, VC, NbC, TaC, Zr(1-x)Nb(x)C (x = 0.06 to 0.94), TiN, and MeC(x)N(y) (Me = Ti, x = 0.995 to 0.1, y = 0.006 to 0.82). Principal regularities in the origination of the kinetic phenomena are surveyed. Data obtained by several authors have been compared. A critical analysis is included of data from the point of view of established conceptions on the energy band structure of monocarbides and the conduction mechanisms connected with them. The experimental results used in this comparison are based on monocarbide compounds obtained through powder metallurgy techniques
