Description
π-Arene bromo- and iodoaluminate complexes of titanium(2), zirconium(2) and (3) are prepared by corresponding tetrahalides reduction by metallic aluminium in the presence of aluminium, trihalide and arene ligand (benzene, mesitylene, hexamethylbenzene). Using the X-ray structural analysis it is shown that in β-(η6-C6H6)Ti(AlI4)2 molecules are markedly deformed as compared with α-form. Zirconium(3) complexes contain trinuclear cluster cations [(η6-Arene)3Zr3Br6]3+ (Arene C6H3Me3, C6Me6) with mean Zr-Zr distance 3.42 A. In cation zirconium(2) complex [(η6-C6H6)2Zr(AlBr4)]+Zr atom has a pseudotetrahedral surrounding with distances Zr-C 2.50, 2.51, Zr-Br 2.83 A
