Analysis of the d-barp→p-barpn-bar reaction at 12 GeV/c and elastic np scattering at 6 GeV/c

Description

An analysis is made of the antideuteron breakup reaction d-barp→ppn and of elastic n-barp scattering derived from this reaction at the momentum 6.1 GeV/c per nucleon. The experimental data have been obtained on the basis of about 70 000 photographs in the bubble chamber ''Lyudmila'' exposed in a separated antiproton beam with a momentum 12.2 GeV/c at the Serpukhov U-70 accelerator. The presence of a fast antiproton-spectator in the lab system made it possible to identify 834 events for the reaction d-barp→p-barpn-bar; the corresponding cross section is 10.4 +- 0.7 mb. The differential cross section dsigma/dt for breakup agrees with the calculation in the framework of the Glauber formalism. For the elastic n-barp scattering derived from the d-barp→p-barpn-bar reaction the slope parameter is evaluated, b/sub n/p = 12.7 +- 1.3 (GeV/c)-2, and the total cross section is found to be sigma/sub e/l(n-barp) = 13.9 +- 1.5 mb. These results coincide within the error with those for p-barp scattering at close energies. Comparison is also made with published data on p-barn scattering
