Development of landmine detection system by measuring radiations from landmine (2)

Description
For the detection of antipersonnel landmine, a landmine detection system has been newly developed by combining a D-D fusion neutron source with radiation detectors to measure capture gamma rays from nitrogen included in the explosive. The prototype system was developed with D-D neutron source and three detectors employing a BGO scintillator surrounded by an annular shaped NaI(Tl) scintillator. Using a prototype system and actual explosives, experiments were carried out. From the results, it was confirmed that the present system could detect real explosives. (T. Tanaka)
