Influtnce of face effect on distribution of optical centers of Yb2+ ions in aluminium garnet crystals

Crystals of Y3Al5O12, in which Y3+ and Al3+ (d) ions are substituted for by Yb2+ and Si4+ respectively, are studied by spectral methods. The crystals of Y3Al5O12-Yb, in which valency composition of impurity ions is determined by conditions of growing, were studied, as well. It is shown that Yb2+ ions form similar optical centres with charge compensation in aluminium sublattice of crystals by Si4+ and H+ ions respectively. The distribution of optical centres of Yb2+ ions on faceted and non-faceted sections of the crystals studied is determined by differences in their growth mechanisms
