Application of the transient magnetic field in ferromagnetic Gd for the measurement of magnetic moments

Description

A general discussion is presented of the application of the transient magnetic field in Gd for the measurement of magnetic moments of short-lived nuclear states. As a part of this discussion, the present experimental and theoretical status of the transient magnetic field in Gd is summarised. Three papers, one previously published in 'Physics Letters' (v. 40B(no 4) p. 446-448), one in 'Nuclear Physics' (A238(1975) p. 159-175) and one to be published in 'Hyperfine Reactions' describe experimental studies of the use of Gd as a ferromagnetic backing in IMPAC experiments, and the application of the transient and internal magnetic fields in this element for the measurement of magnetic moments of nuclear states.
