Decontamination of radionuclides after Fukushima 1st NPPs accidents. Toward an early return of evacuated local residents

Description
Over a year has passed since the disastrous earthquake and Tsunami taking place in East Japan on March 1, 2011, followed by the meltdown of the reactor core of Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plants leaving hydrogen-explosions of the reactor buildings and resulting emission of a large amount of radioactive materials. Meanwhile, Japanese government specified the nuclear evacuation zones from the standpoint of protecting local residents from exposure on one hand, and made legislative preparations and necessary organizational reforms including reinforcement on the other hand. Decontamination activities have been continued on some areas tentatively to find effective methods. This report presents the remediation efforts done by the Ministry of the Environment in light of early return of the evacuated inhabitants. (S. Ohno)

平成23年3月11日に発生した未曾有の規模の地震後,福島第一原子力発電所原子炉建屋で生じた水素爆発により,福島県を中心に大量の放射性物質が飛散する事態となってほぼ1年が経過した。この間,政府では住民の放射線被ばく防護の観点から住民の避難区域指定を行うとともに,早期の住民帰還のための速やかな除染活動の実施に向け,法的整備や除染対応の組織整備·人員増員などの環境整備と並行しつつモデル除染事業等を進めてきた。本稿では,これまでの約1年間の環境省での除染への取り組み状況と今後の計画を紹介する。(日本)Additional details
