Double stimulated Mandelshtam-Brillouin scattering as a cause of backreflection

Description

Results of the theory of double stimulated Mandelshtam-Brillouin scattering in a plasma layer with a critical point is discussed. It is shown that the joint parametric excitation by ingoing pump waves, reflected waves, and scattered waves of the common low-frequency acoustic wave is a new absolute instability. This phenomenon is an efficient mechanism for collimated backreflection of the incident radiation
