Moessbauer spectra in thin iron films and oxidized films

  • 1. Electrotechnical Lab., Tanashi, Tokyo (Japan). Tanashi Branch

Description

The Mössbauer effect has been used to detect magnetic anisotropy in vacuum deposited iron films with thickness up to 5000 Å. The relative intensities of the hyperfine splitting were measured. The results are in good agreement with the measurements by means of torque magnetometer. The Mossbauer spectra of the oxidized iron films indicate that there exist two phases, magnetite and wüstite. X-ray powder diffractometry does not show such a mixture.
