Methods for reducing the classical noise of an atom-laser beam

Full text: Previously we have studied the nonlinear dynamics of a pumped atom laser derived from a Bose-Einstein condensate. The results of our work show that in the limit of strong pumping classical fluctuations in the condensate, and hence the atom laser beam, are damped. Here we present results which are complementary to our previous work; we discuss a number of ways in which the classical noise of pumped and un-pumped atom lasers can be reduced using such mechanisms as time-dependent radiofrequency out-coupling and Raman out coupling. We also discuss the possibility of creating a 'fast' atom laser beam
