Observation of the radiative decay eta' → ωγ in the reaction π-p → π+π-3γn

Description

We have obtained 68 +- 9 events of the previously unseen radiative decay eta' → ωγ (ω → π+π-π0, π0 → γγ) in a charged- and neutral-particle spectrometer. Simultaneously, 1505 events of the decay eta' → etaπ+π-(ν → γγ) were collected in the same apparatus, allowing a direct measurement of this branching ratio. We find (eta' → ωγ)/(eta' → etaπ+π-) = (6.8 +- 1.3) % and use published data to derive (eta' → rhoγ)/(eta' → ωγ) = 9.9 +- 2.0, in excellent agreement with predictions based on vector meson dominance
