Experimental observation of superelastic scattering of electrons from a positive ion
- 1. Queen's Univ., Belfast, Northern Ireland (United Kingdom). Dept. of Pure and Applied Physics
Description
The superelastic scattering of electrons from a positive ion has been experimentally observed for the first time. A cross section of 12.0 x 1017 cm2 was determined for the collisional quenching of the 1s22s2p24P state of C+ at an energy of 3.5 eV. The principle of detailed balancing is used to compare with an R-matrix calculation for the excitation collision strength to this state. (Author)
