Resonance linear accelerator theory

Description

A theory of ion acceleration and focusing in linear resonance accelerators is outlined. Much attention is paid to dynamics of particles in new promising accelerating and focusing structures. The space charge effect on the focusing of continuous beams is considered. Collective processes in linear accelerators are analyzed. It is shown that an appreciable increase in the l:near accelerator beam mean intensity may be achieved when suppressing the phase volume expansion effect. A reduction in the effect is possible: a) when reducing the phase particle scattering effect on the beam defocusing in an accelerating wave; b) when suppressing other possible constraints; c) when the beginning of the acceleration is provided for by high orders of a parametric resonance; d) when the tolerance for random errors is more stringent; e) when the focusing- and accelerating field linearity is improved
