The use of trace detectors based on KODAK LR 115 Type II for the long-term determination of the average value of the volume activity of radon in the dump after uranium mining

Description

In connection with previously implemented experiments aimed at determining the radiation load caused by radon-222 released from the dumps in the Pribram region, a long-term indicative determination of the volume activity value of radon at various places in the dump was carried out. The determination was based on radon concentration measurements carried out using KODAK LR-115 detectors placed with V-90 measuring systems to a depth of 80-100 cm below the surface of the dump. As part of the determination, measurements were carried out both in the crown of the roll and in the foot of the roll. In order to compare the behavior of radon in the dump and the surrounding area, the determination of the volume activity of radon in the soil air at the locality located near the dump was also carried out. *** The exposure time of the new measuring systems ranging from 6 to 10 days was used for the determination. The main finding was that the volume activity value of radon in the dump is not stable, but changes seasonally. From the values obtained so far for the period spring - summer 2022, it follows that with the approaching summer weather, the value of volume activity in the crown of the avalanche drops very significantly.
