Combined chemoradiotherapy for non-small cell lung cancer. Evaluation of clinical and histopathological effects

  • 1. Hyogo Medical Center for Adult Disease, Akashi (Japan)

Description

The clinical and histopathological effects in 12 cases of non-small cell lung cancer treated by neoadjuvant combined chemoradiotherapy following operation were evaluated. Partial response (PR) was observed in 10 of 12 patients (response rate=83.3%) and 2 patients showed no changes (NC). In the primary site, Ef.2 or Ef.3 were observed histologically in 7 of 12 cases. In the lymph node metastatic lesions, Ef.2 or Ef.3 were observed in 8 of 9 cases. The clinical response was not always consistent with the histological effects. We should consider the clinical effects not only in terms of the tumor reduction rate, but also the morphological appearance. It was concluded that the effects of combined chemoradiotherapy were recognized both clinically and histologically. (author)
