On the HF-heating of deuterium plasma with impurity of hydrogen ion in toroidal traps near the ion dyroresonance
Description
Propagation and absorption of electromagnetic waves in a toroidal plasma is studied when the wave frequency is in the vicinity of the light ion gyrofrequency. An effective absorption of the electromagnetic field energy is shown to occur in the gyroresonance region for light ions during the RF power input from the torus interior. At the sufficiently high electron temperature this absorption is caused by the Cherenkow damping on electrons getting the electrons heated up. If the electron-ion temperature ratio is not high, the cyclotron heating of light ions will dominate at the sufficiently low concentration of light ions. The heating of light ions under these conditions may be more effective
