The Behaviour of Pyrocarboim Fuel Particle Coatings at High Fast Neutron Doses
Description
In a study of HTR fuel particle performance as a function of the pyrocarbon source gas, Corail VI and Corail VII concerned realistic coated particles irradiated in the RAPSODIE Reactor at temperatures between 800°C and 1200°C to fast neutron doses above 6 x 1021 n cm-2 DNE. Coatings from methane failed below 3 x ,1021 n cm-2 DNE, whereas coatings from propene and butane survived to the highest doses when formed without internal inhomogeneities or structural gradients.
