Mechanism of the radiation chemical conversions of cellulose

Description
Radical products of the radiolysis of cellulose were investigated by the ESR method. The destruction of the polymer was studied, an analysis was made for carbonyl and carboxyl groups, and the composition of the gases was determined. A scheme of radiation chemical conversions of cellulose was proposed, and the ratios in the formation of the main end products were determined. It was shown that the action of radiation is accompanied by breaking of a glucoside bond and decomposition of the glucose unit of the polymer
