How can nuclear energy alongside other low carbon sources help your country or region to achieve their net zero targets?

Description
In the 2010 pre-feasibility study on nuclear energy, the Singapore government concluded that nuclear energy technologies were not suitable for deployment as the risks outweigh the benefits. Since then, there have been significant technological advancements in the nuclear industry and we believe Singapore could reconsider its position to include nuclear energy as part of its energy mix to achieve net-zero emissions. This report aims to provide the government an alternative viewpoint with our proposed recommendations. Our findings indicate that adoption of nuclear energy is feasible in Singapore and will help with hydrogen production, complementing existing renewable energy infrastructure. The government can consider repurposing oil refineries and petrochemical islands with nuclear hydrogen technologies in view of the global low-carbon energy transition. Greater public receptivity towards nuclear energy can also be built by introducing nuclear energy in the topic of sustainability and clean energy as part of students' education syllabus.
