Measuring ionizing radiation

This condensed textbook first presents a survey of radiation sources, radiation quantities, and the fundamentals of detecting ionizing radiation. Basic knowledge of nuclear physics is required to follow the course. The two main sections of the text deal with technically mature radiation detectors (such as ionization detectors, excitation detectors, solid state nuclear track detectors, chemical detectors), and with well-proven measuring methods (such as particle counting, activity measurement, energy measurement, radioactive half-life measurement, and dose measurement). The information presented primarily has regard for practical measuring problems encountered in medical diagnostics and therapy as well as in civil and military radiation protection. (orig./HP)
