PACS: A picture archiving and communication system for applications in radiology

Description
About 25% of diagnostic imaging methods in radiology today use digital systems. Current research activities are intended to develop an integrated system allowing the acquisition, communication, evaluation and archiving of digitized radiological data in an optimum mode. The concept of 'picture archiving and communication system (PACS)' defined in the English speaking countries has been adopted worldwide, and is explained in this contribution. (orig./HP)

Etwa 25% der bildgebenden Patientenuntersuchungen in der radiologischen Diagnostik werden heute mit digitalen bildgebenden Systemen durchgefuehrt. Neuerdings wird an Loesungen gearbeitet, mit welchen Erzeugung, Transport, Befundung und Archivierung digitalisierter radiologischer Bilder in einem integrierten System optimiert werden koennen. Der im Angelsaechsischen fuer solche Systeme gepraegte Begriff 'Picture Archiving and Communication Systems' (PACS) hat sich weltweit durchgesetzt und wird beschrieben. (orig./HP)Additional details
