Support to operating power stations - some examples

The paper describes the scope of the post-commissioning support work on operating AGR stations carried out by the National Nuclear Corporation (NNC). This includes the improvement work on Hinkley Point B, Hunterston B, Dungeness B and Hartlepool/Heysham 1 power stations. For Hinkley Point B, the support work has mainly been of the fuel discharge route, and for Hunterston B the work concerned the entry of about 8,000 litres of seawater into one of the reactor pressure vessels. Support work on Dungeness B included deficiencies in insulation of Upper pressure-vessel sidewall penetrations, and utilizing part of an active waste vault as an additional buffer store. (U.K.)
