Seismic design of reactor buildings on Niigata Chuetsu earthquake in 2004 at Kashiwazaki-Kariwa NPP

Description
Niigata Chuetsu earthquake attacked the Kashiwazaki-Kariwa nuclear power plants (NPP) in 2004 and the shaking was observed largest since the start of initial operation. Computerized seismic response simulation analysis of the reactor building of the Kashiwazaki-Kariwa-5 NPP was performed using seismic observed records in reactor site ground and within the building, and also the analysis of the Kashiwazaki-Kariwa-1 NPP was estimated based on the analysis of aftershocks observed records. As a result seismic shaking model of reactor building used at design was shown adequate and the seismic response of the building was within the assumed range of the design, by which the seismic safety of the NPPs was ensured.
