Microstructure Fe-Cr-Ni-Zr based hybrid alloy developed for disposal of metallic HLW in geological repository

  • 1. Materials Science Division, Bhabha Atomic Research Centre, Mumbai (India)

Description

Various types of metallic high-level wastes are generated in nuclear fuel cycles, which merits disposal in deep geological repository. One of the key issues in this regard is the identification of suitable matrices for immobilization of these metallic wastes that can sustain harsh repository environment for nearly a million of years. In the present study an attempt has been made to develop Fe-Cr-Ni-Zr based hybrid alloys for immobilization of radioactive stainless steel and zirconium alloys
