Fissile materials detection
Description
Description is given of three types of apparatus intended for controlling fossile materials in view of avoiding their diversion or preventing said products to be mixed to less dangerous radioactive wastes. The gantry-type apparatus is intended for the detection of small masses of fissile materials moving through a crossing place; the neutron gantry consists of helium 3 detectors of the type 150NH100, located inside polyethylene blocks; as for the gamma gantry, it consists of two large plastic scintillators integrated to the vertical legs of said gantry. The second apparatus is a high-efficiency detector intended for controlling Pu inside waste casks. It can detect 10mg of Pu inside a 100 liters drum for one minute counting. The third apparatus intended for persons and things monitoring is still on study. Such as the gantries it is based on sampled measurement of the background noise

On decrit trois types d'appareils destines au controle des matieres fissiles, en vue d'eviter leur detournement ou d'empecher que ces produits ne soient melanges a des dechets radioactifs moins dangereux. Le portique a pour objet la detection de faibles masses de matiere fissile en mouvement dans un lieu de passage; le portique neutron utilise comme detecteurs des compteurs a helium 3 type 150NH100 places dans des blocs de polyethylene; le portique gamma comporte deux grands scintillateurs plastiques disposes de part et d'autre du passage a surveiller, et integres aux montants du portique. Le deuxieme appareil est un systeme a grande efficacite de detection destine au controle du Pu dans les futs de dechets. Il permet de detecter 10mg de 240Pu dans un fut de 100 litres en une minute de comptage. Le troisieme appareil destine au controle des personnes et des objets est encore a l'etude. Il repose, comme les portiques, sur une mesure echantillonnee de bruit de fondFiles
