Description
The pyrolysis reactions of two relatively simple compounds, viz. 4-phenylbutanoic acid and methionine, have been studied by means of the Curie-point pyrolysis technique in direct combination with a mass spectrometer. Deuterium labelling has been used to investigate the pyrolytic fragmentation reactions in detail. Under the circumstances described, the pyrolysis reactions seem to be surprisingly straightforward. Furthermore, they appear to be essentially different from those induced upon electron impact
